A Los Angeles based composer/musician; Kennard Ramsey has worked with a diversity of talent in the film and record industry. He has numerous composing credits for feature films, documentaries, television movies and episodic, ranging from Category 5, an action/drama about Mississippi hurricane Caroline, Kevin Hart:Let Me Explain, a feature comedy starring Kevin Hart, to producer/performer on the song “Tears” for the Russian feature film Generation P. Additional feature film credits include The Heavenly Kid, Ringmaster, Romeo Must Die (orchestrator/ additional music), Without Air for the Sundance, Toronto and the Mannheim Film Festival; Freeway II, a Toronto Film Festival Official Selection; and Bob Smith USA, a feature length documentary competitor at the SilverDocs Film Festival. Television shows include: Lincoln Heights, Knots Landing, Trauma Center, Beverly Hills 90210 and The X-Files (source music).
Artist, composer/producer, Ramsey’s new jazz/world inspired CD entitled SOMOS, is released by Stanley Clarke’s Roxboro Entertainment Group, Bungalo Records/Universal Music Group. Contributing artists include DJ Maga Bo, Stanley Clarke, Chiwoniso, Ruslan Sirota and Charlie Paxson. The album’s ten tracks explore varied ranges of sound, from the infectious, atmospheric rhythms of “Loved Right” to the insistent complex vocal of “White Owl (Pressure),” which features Zimbabwe-born Chiwoniso. It is influenced by the arrangements and orchestrations that personified the innovation of Verve, CTI and Blue Note era recording artists.
He is distinguished by his innovative use of live orchestra, synthesizer and other digital audio media integrating contemporary music genres with traditional. Kennard has arranged music for, and performed with stars like the inimitable King of Love Barry White, as well as, jazz virtuoso Ronnie Laws. He recently traveled to Port Harcourt, Nigeria as a guest instructor for the ION International Film Festival teaching film music composition. Kennard has proven himself to be an accomplished musician and an award-winning performer.
